Moreland Branch Falls

Waterfall Info: This remote waterfall is on Moreland Branch. Besides the main drop, there is a long series of cascades and slides that drops over 200 feet in total. While the waterfall has some photogenic sections, it is extremely difficult to navigate and surrounded by rugged, precarious terrain. In addition, there is a low-flow upper drop at the 2,800-foot level. It cuts through a rocky face and is a steep drop, thick with deadfall and rhododendron. There are large cliffs on either side.

Access Info: Start the trip at an unmarked trailhead (34.83187, -84.59098) just past the Bear Creek Overlook on FR 68 and just before its Potatopatch Mtn. junction with FS-64. Head west on an unkept trail past the headwater of Holly Creek until you reach Moreland Branch after approximately 1.5 miles. Utilize the same trail southbound down the stream until you come to the first set of falls at the 2800-foot elevation. Further down the branch after another short walk, leave the trail at 34.82687, -84.60264 and bushwhack down to the falls shown on the USGS Topographic Map. There is no trail near the falls.
