Moss Falls (Double Branch Falls)
Waterfall Info: This is a small but scenic waterfall in a geographically unusual location on Double Branch, a tributary of Flint River in the Dripping Rocks area. It is best seen in wet weather. A unique curtain of thick moss hangs down behind the falls from the rock outcrop. The waterfall has recently become publicly accessible, as the state of Georgia has leased land from Camp Thunder (a boy scout camp) for hunting and recreation purposes.
Landowner: Camp Thunder VPA
Height: 20 Feet
Type: Sheer Drop (Single-Tier)
County: Upson
Access Info: A rather confusing network of trails spans the region around the falls, some of which are not yet fully constructed. I have not been able to find a trail map for the area. When I visited Double Branch Falls, I accessed it from an access point along Thundering Springs Road. A gated forest road enters Camp Thunder VPA. You will want to take the right (north) fork and follow it for 3/4 mile to the end of the road, from where a series of trails leads another 3/4 mile directly to Moss Falls. Just follow the black arrows to the falls. There are likely other ways to reach the falls as well - consult the map on the GA DNR website for specific locations of access points.
