Raes Creek Falls
Waterfall Info: One of two small waterfalls in the Augusta area, this waterfall lies on Raes Creek at the historic 1850s Augusta Aqueduct. The waterfall is of partly anthropogenic origin. Raes Creek is dammed at Lake Olmstead above the waterfall and above the Augusta Canal. After construction and expansion of the Augusta Canal, Raes Creek was rerouted to join the canal. The new creek's route is steeper and drops over this beautiful waterfall. A separate concrete spillway from Augusta Canal now joins the creek at a large pool below the waterfall. The spillway only flows during water releases. The sharp rocks around the waterfall appear to be part of the original bedrock, but they may have been blasted during the engineering operations that rerouted the creek.
