Tom Roane's Powerhouse Falls

Waterfall Info: From the top, this is the first of five significant waterfalls on Stekoa Creek, a major tributary of the Chattooga River. It's also one of two Stekoa Creek waterfalls located on private property between Rickman Airfield Road and US Highway 441. The waterfall is nicknamed after Tom Roane, who built a hydroelectric plant at the base of the falls in the early 1900s. Roane sold his plant to Georgia Power in 1926. Today, a fascinating set of ruins from the plant still stands at the base of the falls (see photos below).
