Upper Mossy Cove Branch Falls
Waterfall Info: This is the upper and more scenic of two waterfalls in a gorge on Mossy Cove Branch on the southeast side of Chinquapin Ridge. With good water flow, the stream splits all over the broad rock face in stairstep fashion.
Landowner: Chattahoochee National Forest (Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area)
Height: 25 Feet
Type: Sliding Cascade (Single-Tier)
County: Towns
Access Info: Corbin Creek Road (FS 698) makes a long and fairly sharp curve directly south of the point where Mossy Cove Branch drops steeply into the mini-gorge with the two waterfalls. Leave the road at the west end of the curve and bushwhack straight down the ridge, which is easy enough to follow despite being overgrown with mountain laurel. You will probably come out near the top of the lower falls, where you should look for a narrow shelf to the left that you can use to bushwhack to the upper falls. Be very cautious here as the slope is steep and unstable. When you descen toward the falls, you will intersect a well-defined old logging road that appears to receive some foot traffic. I think this old logging road trail begins further down along Corbin Creek Road and loosely follows Mossy Cove Branch the whole way, but I'm not sure on the whereabouts of the exact starting point.
